PERSONALITY:

manhattan has an interesting personality. she's very outgoing, but at the same time she's also very guarded. she'll talk to anyone with any of the stupid small talk stuff, but when it comes to anything deeper, or anyone trying to get in, she shuts herself up. she gets defensive and she'll rarely let these walls down to see everything about herself. it's not that she wants to be closed off to everyone, it's just that she has a hard time trusting people. she's also one of those impulsive girls. she does things very spur of the moment, which she thinks is kind of weird since she's normally such an organized girl. hell she's even a neat freak. she just likes to do her own thing, do what she wants. she's independent. she doesn't like to be told what to do. she'll do whatever the hell she likes, even if it is something rash like running away from home.

she has a tendency to be very motherly towards the people she's close to. once she lets someone in, she gets rather protective of them. she's very loyal, and will be there whenever she's needed. she practically raised herself and her sister, so sometimes she can push the motherly role a little too far. she is by no means extremely responsible though. sure she knows how to control herself, but she does like to have fun. she parties as much as the next person, but she knows when to not overdo it. she's good at moderation and setting guidelines for herself.

HISTORY:

michael and lorelai's story was not really an epic love story, it was just more your average love. the two did not meet until college. michael was in harvard medical school and lorelai was a harvard undergrad. the two came across each other one day, or rather ran smack into each other. to make up for running into her, michael offered to take her for coffee, but lorelai respectfully declined. a few days later, the two met again at a party. this time they hit it off a little better and lorelai gave him her phone number. from this second meeting, the two started going on dates and ended up dating for two years, until michael proposed. lorelai accepted and the two were married about seven months later.

lorelai and michael agreed to wait until after lorelai had finished up law school before they would try for a child. michael was starting as a surgical intern, and lorelai was a new graduate when she discovered that she was pregnant with their first child. once they were told that their child was a girl, the two began their name search. after quite a bit of deliberation, the two decided that they would name their child after the place in which she was conceived. in this case, it was manhattan. finally, in early november, two weeks after the original due date, their little baby girl was born, manhattan meredith mcqueen.

the couple had settled down in a new home in boston, massachusetts shortly before manhattan was born. at this point in time, the house was average sized and their life was pretty simple. michael was constantly working, and lorelai decided to take off the first year with manhattan before heading off to find a job. this original year was extended when lorelai discovered she was pregnant yet again after their trip to seattle. nine months later, another baby girl was born. in the tradition of their first child, they named this one seattle sierra mcqueen.

manhattan got along quite well with her new sibling, even if she wasn't that old when she was born. after a few months with newborn seattle, lorelai headed off to work at a law firm. michael was still very busy with his own work, and two two children were left under the care of nannies or on occasion, family. as manhattan grew up, she remained very close to her sister. after all, she was only a little over a year older than her. the two were pretty much inseparable as young children, and even when they started school they remained very close.

manhattan always felt the need to be the responsible older sister, even when she wasn't responsible. she acted like the mother a lot of the time and was always there to help out seattle, especially since their own mother was gone at work most of the time. she wasn't best child by any means, but she was rather independent. she learned to do everything herself at a young age, and also took care of her sister at the same time. when manhattan got to high school, she kept her grades up. they weren't perfect, but she did put some effort into her school work. like most, she got distracted by the social things, friends, boyfriends, parties. she balanced things pretty well though, never really was one to have excess of any one thing.

during the summer before junior year, manhattan began dating a boy named ashton. the two had gone to school together for a long time and had been pretty close friends but the two began dating at this time. they remained a couple even through graduation. after graduating high school, manhattan decided that she wanted to go into photography. her parents weren't very thrilled with this decision but went along with it anyways, even though they kept encouraging her into college.

everything started moving so fast after her eighteenth birthday. that christmas, her boyfriend ashton proposed and she accepted. her parents continued to pressure her to go into college in the fall, and then she hit the final straw. that summer, her sister seattle was killed in a head on collision with another driver. manhattan was devastated but did not really realize it just yet. it took almost another year for manhattan to realize that she could not handle the way things were in her life. her boyfriend was controlling, her parents were pressuring. the one thing that kept her sane, her sister, was gone and it all just hit her. this was when manhattan decided to take off.

she had no clue where the hell she was going, but she took off. she didn't leave a note, she didn't say good-bye, she just left. she took all the money she had saved up and went on the first flight she saw, which in this case was to hawaii. she had always wanted to go to hawaii, and it seemed like a great place for her photography. so here she is now in hawaii trying to start over new.
